Silicone Lube
With the array of different lubes out there, it can be a bit confusing sometimes to find the right one for you. There are warming ones, tingling ones, gentle ones, condom friendly ones – and that’s just part of the lubrication category. So it’s definitely worth doing your research if you’re new to the lube market. And even if you’re not, even if you’ve been an experienced lube-user for years, it can still be worth checking out the new ones, you know, just in case there’s something better or different out there that you’d like to try.
Why use lube at all?
A quick re-cap as to why using lube is such an important part of sex:
- Vaginal lubrication is obviously first choice, but there are lots of reasons why that might not be enough and it would be uncomfortable to have sex. Fluctuating hormones are usually the reason, and nerves can also play a part in intimate discomfort. But there’s no need to worry, that’s why lubes have been invented.
- It reduces friction so there are no “Ow, that hurts!” scenarios. Just a drop of lube can give a slippery, sensual feeling which in turn increases excitement and means sex is more enjoyable.
- It can be used with sex toys too. If you’re not sure what the right product is for you, then experimentation is the name of the game.
Why use silicone lube?
If you’re looking for something that’s going to last and be durable, then a silicone lube could be the perfect choice. The Durex Play Perfect Glide actually lasts 3x longer than Durex’s leading lube. Another big advantage here is that it’s condom friendly too. You can use Durex Play Perfect Glide during sex, solo play and with or without condoms – your choice. It’s also suitable for vaginal, anal and oral sex. It lasts longer than water-based lubes so there’s no continual re-application needed, which can be irritating because of the interruption of the fun and sex. No-one needs unnecessary interruption in their quest for sexual pleasure! It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t a contraceptive on its own, it doesn’t contain any spermicide, it’s literally just designed for lubrication purposes.
Pjur Original – this is their standard lube which covers all bases. It can be used during sex, whether that’s anal, oral or vaginal (bonus!) or if you’re looking for a bit of solo pleasure time. It’s definitely worth investing in this one because of its durability, reliability and the excellent job that it does. It’s priced competitively too so great if you’re watching the pennies.
Pjur Light. This brand has branched out from their Original lube here, so what are the differences? It’s a lighter feel which means that it spreads more quickly so you can have it on hand quickly wherever it’s needed at that particular moment. It’s long-lasting, latex safe and it’s not oily or sticky so no worries about ruining hotel bedsheets, or anywhere that you’re a guest (friends included, you might be very close to them but let’s face it, no-one likes clearing up someone else’s sexual aftermath). To avoid this, just pop a bottle of Pjar light in your overnight bag and you’re good to go.
Another option is the Real Feel lube. Are you after a straightforward lube that just does as it says on the tin? (Or bottle). If so, then Durex Real Feel could be just the ticket. This one gives a naturally, smooth experience with no added sensation or stimulation, it’s just an erotic, slippery feeling that makes you feel closer and more intimate with your partner. It also doesn’t dry out easily so there’s no awkward re-application every ten minutes during sex.
For most silicone lubes, they don’t only have one use, they’re very much a multipurpose product. Planning a sensual massage? Have your lube on hand! The denser ones are probably the best for this activity. During sex is the obvious one, and the more the better so don’t feel shy about applying plenty of it. Foreplay and masturbation are also ideal candidates for using lube. So when you look at silicone lubrication overall, you can use it for avoiding intimate discomfort, but it can also be therapeutic, have skin conditioning properties or even used as a moisturiser.
There’s also silicone lube that’s been especially developed for women. It has a different formulation to benefit softer, more sensitive skin. It’s not fragranced, it’s non-toxic and odourless. Which means that you’re free to add to the experience with flavoured condoms if you wish. The main difference with this type of lube is that it’s super concentrated – a little goes a long way – and it’s not going to make a sticky, oily mess. This is definitely the stuff worth investing in if you’re looking for a closer, more sensual experience with your partner, long-lasting and skin softening. What’s not to like?
